2026 HSA Contribution Limits: What Employers Need to Know

2026 HSA Contribution Limits
For the 2026 plan year, employees can contribute up to:
- $4,400 for self-only coverage (up $100 from 2025)
- $8,750 for family coverage (up $200 from 2025)
And remember: individuals age 55 and older can still make a $1,000 catch-up contribution, bringing their total to:
- $5,400 for self-only
- $9,750 for family coverage

2026 HDHP Deductibles & Out-of-Pocket Maximums
To be HSA-eligible, employees must be enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). Here are the updated thresholds:
HDHP Coverage Type: 2025 2026
Self-only - Minimum Deductible $1,650 $1,700
Self-only - Max Out-of-Pocket $8,300 $8,500
Family - Minimum Deductible $3,300 $3,400
Family - Max Out-of-Pocket $16,600. $17,000
EBHRA Limits Also Increase
Excepted Benefit HRAs (EBHRAs) are getting a modest bump too:
- 2026 EBHRA limit: $2,200 (up from $2,150 in 2025)
